A Look Back at an
Unforgettable Tournament
The first chapter of Copa Cap Cana wrote history in the Caribbean. Relive the moments that defined an extraordinary week of world-class tennis.
A Historic Debut
The numbers behind a tournament that exceeded every expectation — from sold-out crowds to a field rivaling ATP 250 events.
Moments That Defined the Week
From center court drama to behind-the-scenes moments — a visual journey through the inaugural Copa Cap Cana.
Built in 60 Days, Designed to Last Forever
What began as an empty plot in Cap Cana became a $3.5 million, 24,000 m² tennis complex in just two months. Six Laykold courts — the same surface as the Miami Open — a 1,790-seat Stadium Court, grandstands, and a Fan Village. Three days before the tournament, the Grandstand court had to be rebuilt from scratch due to moisture issues. The team delivered it on time.
Sold Out From the Quarterfinals
Over 18,000 fans packed Racquet Village throughout the week. Every ticket from the quarterfinals onward was sold out, creating an atmosphere usually reserved for ATP 500 events. The energy in the Dominican crowd was unlike anything the players had experienced.
The Upsets That Shook the Draw
The tournament delivered drama from day one. 8th seed Cameron Norrie fell to alternate Constant Lestienne. 4th seed David Goffin was eliminated by Daniel Altmaier in the longest match of the tournament (2h46m). 2nd seed Etcheverry was ousted in the quarterfinals by teenager Jakub Menšík.
Five Star City, Jack Nicklaus Golf
Players stayed at a five-star all-inclusive resort with full packages for them and a companion. Each player received a complimentary round at Punta Espada Golf Club — a Jack Nicklaus signature course ranked among the Caribbean’s best.
Kovacevic Makes History in Just 71 Minutes
After defeating four Top 100 players — including top seed Muller in a dramatic semifinal tiebreak — Aleksandar Kovacevic dominated Damir Dzumhur 6-2, 6-3 in 71 minutes. He dropped just six points behind his first serve, saving 5 of 6 break points. The first-ever champion earned 175 ATP points and $30,770.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Copa Cap Cana went beyond competition. The Kids Clinic brought young Dominican players face-to-face with ATP professionals. School Day gave hundreds of students their first live tennis experience. Local wildcard Roberto Cid Subervi 🇩🇴 made the Round of 16, electrifying the home crowd.
